There is so much to love about this tale of two flower shops in Crown Heights, Brooklyn. One caters to the area’s Hasidic Jewish population (factoid I learned: most Hasidic men buy flowers for their wife every Friday for the Sabbath. I think all men, irregardless of religion should embrace this!) while the other caters to the neighborhood’s growing “hipster” population. What ties the two shops together? They’re both pushing the boundaries of what a bouquet “should” be. This is an idea the Garden embraces in many of our Floral Design classes, and I wish both shops many years of continued success! ~AR

Mike was working as a stay-at-home Dad when he decided to open up a coffee shop on Franklin Ave. He named the coffee shop Little Zelda, after his daughter. Mike and Zelda still spend a lot of time together at the shop. There’s even a growth chart for Zelda on the wall.”

Urban Garden (Crown Heights, Brooklyn)

I’m not a huge fireworks person, though I do enjoy shared experiences with people in my community. So, on July 4th, I found myself happily on the roof enjoying a beer and the white noise of people on surrounding rooftops combined with the randomly distributed boom of fireworks in 5 different directions. Best of all, I was treated to a heat lightning storm and had one of those I-love-where-I-live moments.

This video is what grew out of it on a lazy, unplanned Saturday night.
